Orthophoto Download Service, INSPIRE

The service contains orthophotos (scale correct aerial photographs) in colour (RGB) with a resolution of 0,5 m. The service meets the requirements for INSPIRE. The product name in Swedish is Ortofoto Nedladdning, Inspire.

Brief information

Logotype för tjänster som uppfyller riktlinjer enligt EU-direktivet Inspire

The service contains the latest nationwide coverage of orthophotos in colour with a resolution of 0,5 m, divided in municipalities. Each index tile in every municipality is available in SWEREF 99 TM and the SWEREF local zone of that municipality. For every index tile (5x5 km) in each municipality there is a zipped file, containing an image file in LZW-compressed GeoTIFF, two coordinate files (tfw and tab) and three metadata files in GeoJSON.

The download is provided as an Atom feed. There are many different clients, including browsers, that can read the Atom feed. Browser support for reading Atomic feeds varies.

Maintenance and update frequency

The service is continuously updated with new orthophotos as they are produced.

We refer to:

Technical framework and standard for download services

Download services are based on the standard protocol WCS (new window) from OGC or the web standard Atom (new window).

WCS works as a display service, but with the ability to download the data contained in the service. Most GIS software on the market has built-in support for the WCS standard .

Atom is an XML-based format used for web feeds and can be used in most RSS readers or feed readers.

Delivery information and metadata

The orthophotos can be downloaded in color with a resolution of 0.5 m.

File set

The file name consists of the index box designation, followed by year with four digits. Files downloaded in SWEREF local zones are named with a zone prefix first in the file name, e.g. 1200. In cases where the orthophoto consists of parts of orthophotos from different years, the year that the main part of the surface has is in the file name.

File name and content - file set
Filename (5x5 km) Content
672_61_55_2017.tif The image in LZW-compressed GeoTIFF format.
672_61_55_2017.tfw WORLD file (coordinate information) for TIFF format.
672_61_55_2017.tab
Coordinate information specific to MapInfo.

The average file size is about 202 MB, however the size may vary.

Delivery format

Orthophotos are delivered in LZW-compressed GeoTIFF. Separate WORLD files are always included. Orthophotos can be delivered in SWEREF 99 TM and in resp. municipal local zone.

Metadata

The orthophoto's associated metadata files show, among other things. what orthophotos they are composed of, their distribution, and information about the included aerial photographs. Along with the orthophotos, seam lines and aerial photo times for the included aerial images are also delivered, the seam lines are reported in the form of polygons.

File name and content - metadata
File name (example 5x5 km) Content
672_61_55_flygbild_2017.json Metadata for the aerial photographs included in the orthophoto, the distribution of which is reported in the form of polygons.
672_61_55_ortofoto_2017.json Metadata for the orthophoto itself.
672_61_55_uttag_2017.json Metadata for the entire outlet.

Here, pixel files in shape format can be downloaded, containing information about aerial photo timing for all aerial images, which can then be matched to the orthophotos.
