Cadastral Files in Arken - Presentation
All property changes take place via a cadastral process. The results of any property changes are mapped and/or documented and archived for future reference in a cadastral file. All the original files belonging to cadastral processes which have taken place in Sweden since the middle of the 1700's have been stored at the respective office in each county.
The cadastral file includes all historical and current information describing a property's characteristics and corresponding cadastral procedures. All rights which have been granted and decisions which have been taken place regarding new plans and alterations can be found in this file. Files may include maps and their corresponding descriptions together with protocol describing how the cadastral process was completed. Comprehensive information can be found corresponding to functions in the property register - for example easements and boundaries.
The regional archive is comprised of approximately 3 million files, which traditionally have been stored at each respective office. The files contain valuable legal documentation concerning property division in Sweden and the National Land Survey is responsible for preserving these.
The National Land Survey has undertaken a project to digitise these cadastral files. This is being undertaken gradually, county by county and is expected to be completed across Sweden in 2009. The maps and cadastral documentation are scanned and stored in Arken which is the digital archive. After being scanned, all original cadastral maps and documentation are stored in a central storage analogue archive.
If you have any questions about a property or wish to order a copy of the cadastral file, please feel free to use the Swedish service 'Ask the Surveyor' (Fråga Lantmätaren). You may of course send a letter or give us a call as well!
