Maps
Lantmäteriet provides Swedish society - the public and private sectors, the general public and a wide range of other users - with geographic information in the form of maps, aerial photography and satellite imagery. We collect, maintain, update and make this information available via our e-services and distributors. The platform for all geographic information is survey data with which the exact location of objects on the ground can be determined.
Maps and geographic information

Lantmäteriet supplies maps and other geographical information for different purposes. Maps are available in various scales and can be printed on paper or delivered digitally on CD or via the Internet. The geographical information that constitutes the basis of the maps is digital and is divided into different themes in order to enable further processing using computers. Except for the maps Lantmäteriet produces for the basic needs in society we also make exclusive maps for various customers.
Aerial photographs and satellite imagery
Air photos and satellite imagery contain a wealth of information about the landscape. The imagery is used for map production and also is an important tool for project planning in connection with road construction and for environmental monitoring. By comparing imagery obtained at different times, changes in the landscape can be detected and monitored.
Geodesy and GPS
The main purpose of our geodetic activities is to determine coordinates for the location of points on the earth's surface in geodetic reference systems, elevations referred to reference surfaces and gravity values. Lantmäteriet is responsible for the establishment and maintenance of these fundamental geodetic reference networks in Sweden. Points in the networks are used directly, or for establishing other reference points, for a wide range of uses including detail surveys, technical project planning, mapping, building and construction and cadastral surveys. Lantmäteriet carries out a comprehensive geodetic R&D programme with special focus on the use of GPS techniques for measuring and positioning and for the establishment of modern reference systems. We also provide support and advisory services to users of our data. Lantmäteriet also carries out a wide range of survey work which includes the creation of basic data for projects, large scale town and city mapping and utilities mapping.
R&D
Lantmäteriet´s R&D programmes include system development. In cooperation with other branches we produce customized, web-based geographic information systems in which the client¿s own information is linked to geographic and real property information. An example of this type of development is a system for searching for information concerning ownership of real properties.
